A slew of murders around a Louisiana town has Sheriff Whitaker mystified. Their only link is that the attacks look to the work of a rabid dog.
When ABC television was one of only 3 choices for most households, they had a regular movie-of-the-week presentation. Moon of the Wolf happened to be one of several horror films made for television at the time. It's a murder mystery wrapped around a horror film. It stars an aged David Janssen, best known as the original Dr. Richard Kimble in The Fugitive TV show of the late 60's. Veteran television actress Barbara Rush portrays the suspect's sister, and Clint Eastwood's good friend Geoffrey Lewis (Any Which Way But Loose, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil) plays a murder victim's brother.
If you're a fan of 70's television, you might enjoy seeing some familiar faces of a variety of television shows popping up in one place. The violence is minimal, but the implications of feral mauling are quite nice. The acting is surprisingly above standard for a TV project. The makeup for the werewolf, however, don't look like they progressed much since the 50's.
If you like kooky, cheesy mysteries, and have a nostalgia for old-time TV, you might like Moon of the Wolf. If you want a flat out horror film, keep looking elsewhere.
